30 Book Challenge: Milk and Honey & #GIRLBOSS

For 2017 I made reading more one of my resolutions (Click Here to check out A Prosperous New Year), so here's the beginning to my 30 Book Challenge!

Milk and Honey is one of those books you refer to as situations happen in your life. It’s thoughtful, appeals to the emotions, relatable (on more levels than one) and simple. Milk and Honey covers four phases that almost all humans go through; the hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing.

Rupi Kaur opened her experiences for us to learn from, and I think that is the most personal thing someone can do. While reading, I felt that I was in her shoes, feeling what she felt. I often found myself thinking of experiences in my life that are similar to those in the book. I won’t spoil the this for you, but I do want to leave you with a few of my favorite quotes.

  • “You must want to spend the rest of your life with yourself first.”

  • “How you love yourself is how you teach others to love you.”

  • “Loneliness is a sign you are in desperate need of yourself.”

Whenever I posted pictures of this book, I would receive comments like “Isn’t Nasty Gal going out of business?” “Didn’t they file for bankruptcy?”

Question #1: No

Question #2: Yeah……..and?

People fail to realize that Sofia Amoruso still created a multimillion dollar company that’s still flourishing even while having financial trouble.

#GIRLBOSS is one of those books that makes you realize that as long as you’re working towards your goals and working to become your best version of yourself, you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Sofia gives us a look into her younger life, the rocky road of starting her vintage ebay store, to where she is now, and everything in between. I appreciate the honestly, humor, and sarcasm in #GIRLBOSS.

I feel that even though this book is named #GIRLBOSS and is targeted to a female audience, it’s a great read for guys also. If a guy is willing to read this book, it’s just a matter of altering your perception and figuring out how you can use the advice to your advantage.

Here are a few of my fave quotes:

  • "Don’t get so focused on one particular opportunity that you’re blind to others one that come up."

  • "When you begin with the finish line in mind, you miss all the fun stuff along the way."

  • "When your goal is to gain experience, perspective, and knowledge, failure is no longer a possibility. Failure is your invention."
